ASTEROIDS II MACHINE-READABLE DATA BASE - MARCH 1988 VERSION
This data set was assembled by E. F. Tedesco, Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, in March 1988 from files provided by the contributors noted
below. These files constitute the machine-readable version of Part VI -
Tabulation, of the book "Asteroids II" 1988 eds. R.P. Binzel, T. Gehrels,
and M.S. Matthews (Tucson, Arizona: University of Arizona Press). Each
chapter in Part VI will contain a brief introduction followed by the
tabular material. In many cases the chapters will be a subset of the
machine-readable form of the data set. For example, one of the enclosed
files is a tabulation of proper elements computed by J.G. Williams; these
will not appear in the book.
The possibility exists that some of the enclosed files, for example
the discovery circumstances file, will be updated prior to publication,
hence, the version which appears in the book may differ from that
contained herein. For this reason references to data obtained from
these files should reference them explicitly. For example a reference
to the rotation data base should read "Lagerkvist et al., 1987" in the
text and (for the floppy disk version) "Lagerkvist, C.-I., Harris, A.W.,
and Zappala, V. (1987). Asteroids II machine-readable data base: March
1988 floppy disk version." in the references section.
The files contained herein have been deposited with the National
Space Science Data Center, Code 633.4, Goddard Space Flight Center,
Greenbelt MD 20771 under the data set name: "Asteroids II machine-readable
data base: March 1988 version". The time between submission of a data set
to the NSSDC and the time it becomes available to a requester is on the
order of three to six months. Their average processing time for a request
is three to four weeks. This data set will be available from NSSDC only
on 9-track magnetic tape. If you have used the NSSDC version of this data
set then the full reference should read, for example, "Lagerkvist, C.-I.,
Harris, A.W., and Zappala, V. (1987). Asteroids II machine-readable data
base: March 1988 version, National Space Science Data Center, Greenbelt
MD". Naturally, a datum on an individual asteroid, at least one you are
discussing in detail, should reference the original source.
The Asteroids II machine-readable data base: March 1988 version
consists of the following files received by me on, or prior to, 29 March.
